So in my last post I mentioned making lap blankets for the Memory Care Center was going to be my BIG Random Act of Kindness project for the year. Well I decided to post in a Buy Nothing Facebook group I’m in asking if anyone had extra yarns and mentioned what I was doing. Not only have people offered yarns but a group of women have all offered to help make the blankets!! Some already know how to crochet, and some need to be taught. We had a lesson today and it went well. I’m excited to say we are going to try our absolute best to make a lap blanket for every single resident of the Memory Care Center, all 72!!! We will be donating them in November. It seems like a daunting feat but I’m sure we can do it!! I’m completely blown away by these women! I have a feeling I’m going to have a great group of friends by the end of the year who also love the idea of random acts of kindness. Right now I have 4 lap blankets that I’m working on started. I ran out of the yarns for them three of them, thus why I have so many started. I have a few women working on blankets and a few working on making granny squares that I’ll join together to form blankets. Nana bought the yarn needed to finish one of the ones I started so I’m working to complete that one. I will be applying for a grant through Random Acts in the coming weeks to help pay for part of the yarn needed and the women helping make blankets are going to work on fundraising as well. It’s looking like each blanket will end up costing between $20-25 each so this project is going to add up but I’m sure we will figure it out as we go.
I’ve also selected the first Medical Prayer Shawl Recipient of the year! Liz Oxford!! She has chosen a red and black shawl. I’ve got her yarn and I will be working on her shawl in the coming weeks and getting it shipped out to her.
I am so thankful that I am able to spread some love, kindness and joy around the world around me.
